How to Find a Gym

Buffalo, like most US cities, has multiple types of gyms. There are fitness centers (typically offering classes, family plans, swimming pools/saunas and other amenities, and short-term child care services), 24-hour gyms, personal training gyms, CrossFit gyms, boutique gyms, specialty gyms focused on a particular activity (boxing, jiu-jitsu, MMA, rowing, gymnastics, rock climbing, etc), and private gyms.

The biggest factor to consider when looking for a gym is location. Finding a gym that is conveniently located near your home or place of work is recommended.

Fitness centers

JCC has two locations – one on Delaware Ave in Buffalo and one on Forest Ave in Amherst.

LA Fitness has multiple locations in the area – one within the city on Elmwood Ave, and additional locations in the towns surrounding the city.

Catalyst Fitness has several locations in the city and throughout the area.

CrossFit gyms

There are many CrossFit gyms in the area as well. There are also a few located outside the City of Buffalo and closer to the surrounding suburbs.

Personal training gyms

There are a number of personal training-focused gyms. All of the fitness centers and many private gyms offer personal training services. Additionally, there are private gyms and workout facilities throughout the area that cater specifically to personal training.

Some examples:

24-hour gyms

Buffalo has very few public 24-hour gyms. Many of the small, private fitness centers available within apartment buildings or private clubs may be your only options if you want a true 24-hour gym. Planet Fitness has a couple of locations that advertise themselves as 24-hour gyms, but you should be sure to check their actual hours before signing up.

Specialty/Boutique gyms

Buffalo has one main rock climbing gym called Central Rock Gym.

Every Body Plus – group classes (wide variety such as Barre, Pilates, Pole, Zumba, TRX, Step aerobics, Bootcamps & more!) & personal training too.

Buffalo has several boxing gyms including:

If there is a gym or specialty gym type that you don’t see mentioned in this article, please suggest an edit and we can add it to this list.
